AR peak identification
Use the iPhone camera view to understand the peaks in front of you when location and sensor context are available.
Rocky Mountain National Park mountain guide
Rocky Mountain National Park is full of named peaks, high passes, and fast-changing alpine context. Epicrest helps you identify what you are seeing and keep a private record of the mountains you visit.
Field context
Use the iPhone camera view to understand the peaks in front of you when location and sensor context are available.
Browse nearby summits, elevation, prominence, weather, and route context from the map before you commit to a plan.
With Epicrest Pro, save a selected Outdoor area before a trip so downloaded map and place context remains available when service is limited.
Keep summit notes on device, with optional private iCloud sync. Epicrest does not use server-side photo storage for journals.
Bear Lake Road concentrates many famous outings: Bear Lake, Nymph, Dream, and Emerald Lakes; Glacier Gorge; Bierstadt Lake; and access toward Flattop Mountain. Moraine Park and Sprague Lake offer lower, broader views. Wild Basin reaches a quieter southeast trail network, while Trail Ridge Road climbs into tundra and Continental Divide overlooks when the seasonal road is open. Longs Peak is a technical, high-risk mountain objective, not a routine extension of a scenic park day.
Use Epicrest's map to isolate the exact zone and inspect peaks, elevations, and route detail where data exists. From a safe, open viewpoint, AR can help separate Hallett Peak, Flattop Mountain, Longs Peak, and the layered Continental Divide. Verify any label with the map and visible terrain. A good alignment does not establish route access or safety, and a road viewpoint can sit thousands of feet above the weather conditions at an Estes Park lodging forecast.
From May 22 through October 12, 2026, general Timed Entry is required from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and excludes Bear Lake Road. Timed Entry + Bear Lake Road uses a wider 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. window through October 18. Reservations have a two-hour arrival window, apply per vehicle, and are separate from the park entrance pass. Entry outside a controlled time is possible, but an early arrival is not a parking reservation.
Bear Lake shuttles operate frequently during the 2026 season, while the Moraine Park route is less frequent. The Estes Park Hiker Shuttle requires its own reservation. Bear Lake Road is maintained year-round subject to winter traction controls; Trail Ridge Road is seasonal and can close in any month because of weather. Use the live road and shuttle pages rather than assuming a reservation solves transport. Snow and ice can remain on higher trails when lower paths are dry.
Park elevations run from roughly 7,500 feet to above 12,000 feet. Headache, nausea, fatigue, dizziness, or vomiting can signal altitude illness; descent is the essential response, not an app setting. Alpine thunderstorms and lightning favor an early start and a conservative retreat below treeline. Check current trail reports, but remember that each report is a dated field snapshot. Carry layers, water, sun protection, and appropriate traction or snow-travel equipment when conditions require it.
Epicrest Pro can create or refresh an offline Outdoor area up to 50 miles, with up to 15 installed packs in public iPhone version 2.2. Download at reliable service and carry an official map plus separate navigation backup. Offline context does not update a road closure or storm. After the outing, record the zone, place, route, date, and observed conditions in the private Journal. Entries stay on the iPhone with optional private iCloud sync, and journal photos are never stored on Epicrest servers.
