Coverage snapshot · documented method

Epicrest data coverage, measured in a dated snapshot

As of , an Epicrest production coverage snapshot contained 6,549,946 outdoor-place records across 66 source place types, plus 2,517,594 trail, track, road, and route records. These are record counts, not claims of that many unique destinations.

Methodology

How Epicrest counts each figure

Outdoor places. Epicrest summed record_count for every places-core entry in the dated regional production snapshot. Its cells partition the globe into non-overlapping 2-degree areas, so the same cell record is not counted again in a neighboring cell. The snapshot’s source_place_kinds array contained 66 values.

Routes. Epicrest summed record_count for every routes-lite entry in the dated country production snapshot. The total includes trail, track, road, and route records attached to 240 country and territory entries. A cross-border route may appear in more than one country entry, so this number is deliberately described as records rather than unique routes.

Bundled peaks. The public iPhone 2.2 release’s June 2, 2026 peak snapshot declares a peakCount of 199,753, and its peak array contains the same number of records. This is the local release bundle, not a claim that every mountain on Earth is represented.

What the numbers mean in the app

The indexes give Epicrest a broad pool of outdoor records to search, rank, display, and package. What appears for a person still depends on location, map bounds, data quality, the place or route type, app version, server responses, and which context has been prepared offline. A high source count does not guarantee that every place has a complete description, route geometry, current access status, or weather coverage.

Epicrest combines these records with map, elevation, boundary, weather, alert, facility, and personal planning context where available. It remains an informational outdoor companion. Verify closures, permits, hazards, trail conditions, and emergency information with the responsible land manager and current official sources.

What the numbers do not claim

  • They do not claim 6,549,946 semantically unique destinations; source-level duplicates or closely related features can remain.
  • They do not claim 2,517,594 globally unique routes; cross-border country records can overlap.
  • They do not claim uniform worldwide completeness, accuracy, access, or offline availability.
  • They do not replace authoritative maps, land-manager notices, current conditions, navigation equipment, or field judgment.

Review basis

How the coverage snapshot was checked

The exact totals above were recomputed from Epicrest’s dated July 14, 2026 regional and country production catalog snapshots. Those operational catalogs support app delivery; they are not public datasets or website downloads. This page publishes the aggregate result, counting method, date, and limitations.
