These rules apply only when you deliberately submit a photo through the separate Community Photo flow. Private Journal photos remain private.
You must be at least 18, use your own Epicrest account, accept the current Terms and Privacy Policy, and truthfully complete every contribution attestation. You must own the photo or have authority from the rights holder to submit it and grant the license in the Terms.
Submit clear photographs of the actual outdoor place or route. Helpful subjects include terrain, trail surfaces, viewpoints, durable landmarks, junctions, and signed trailheads. A photo never proves that access is legal, a place is open, conditions are current, or a route is safe.
Choose the least precise useful location. Overall place or route stores no photo coordinate. Approximate location stores only a coarsened point. Precise location requires a separate specific consent. Epicrest may reduce location precision and will not increase it without new permission.
Do not submit:
Epicrest has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse or exploitation. Contact local emergency services for immediate danger. Use Report or email safety@epicrest.app so Epicrest can act promptly.
Epicrest reencodes the image to remove embedded metadata, then sends the sanitized image to an isolated automated screening service. A clear pass may be approved and published automatically. Uncertain content remains private for human review. A clear policy failure is rejected and remains private. An unavailable or failed screening result fails closed.
Epicrest may resize, crop, reencode, reduce location precision, correct formatting, refuse publication, or remove content. Approval is not an endorsement and does not change route qualification, access, closure, or safety information.
Every supported public photo viewer provides Report and Block Contributor. Reports can identify explicit content, child safety, violence, harassment, privacy, illegal activity, misleading or unsafe content, spam, copyright, or another concern. Blocking hides that contributor's community photos for the signed in viewer and can be reversed in Settings.
Epicrest may remove content, limit contributions, preserve evidence, suspend an account, or report apparent violations when required by law. High risk reports receive priority. Report outcomes may be limited to protect users, investigations, and security.
You can withdraw your contribution in Settings. Epicrest removes the photo from public delivery and queues the stored source and derivatives for deletion. Withdrawal does not affect private Journal content and cannot always retrieve copies another person or service already saved or shared.
Submissions waiting for human review are rejected after 30 days without a decision. Rejected sources have a 30 day appeal period before deletion. Approved sources and derivatives are retained while published. Minimal deidentified decision and integrity evidence may remain for security, abuse prevention, disputes, and legal duties.
Send copyright notices to copyright@epicrest.app. Include your signature, the work claimed, the Epicrest content location, your name and contact information, a good faith statement that the use is unauthorized, and a statement under penalty of perjury that the notice is accurate and you are authorized to act. Epicrest may disable the material, notify the contributor, process a legally sufficient response, and terminate repeat infringers where appropriate.
